Everything we voted for is on the east side of the island. One thing isn't, and it's the one where a taxi doesn't matter.

Two of our three nights are on this strip. Swedish House Mafia at Ushuaïa and Black Coffee at Hï are both a kilometre away, so on the Saturday we walk home at six in the morning instead of standing in a taxi queue with four hundred other people.

Twin rooms confirmed, breakfast included, beachfront, and the airport transfer is twenty minutes rather than an hour — which matters when we land at 11:30 and want to be somewhere by early afternoon. 4,893 reviews, so it's a known quantity.

The catch: O Beach becomes a €45 taxi each way. Either pay it once on the Thursday, or do Bora Bora instead — free entry, 200m up the same beach.

The beds

Every price below is the total per person including flights, so Jet2 packages and do-it-yourself bookings can be compared directly. Jet2 prices already include flights, bags, transfers and ATOL cover; the others are the bed only, with £375 for flights added on. Rooms is what we would actually book, beds counts proper beds only — no sofas — and sleeps is the most it could take if anyone else fancies it.

Somebody said boat

On the water

Two ways to do it. Sunset boats leave San Antonio in the early evening; daytime party boats leave Playa d'en Bossa around lunchtime. Where we stay decides which one is easy.

Float Your Boat

The island's best-value boat party and the one everybody means when they say "the boat". Three hours along the west coast on a Funktion One rig, swim stop, two sangrias thrown in, and club entry included in the ticket. September sailings move an hour earlier to line up with sunset.

Adults only. Check in at the kiosk opposite the fountains by the Egg, an hour before.

Bossa day boats

Fri 4 Sept · from ~12:00 · Playa d'en Bossa

Oceanbeat, Ibiza Boat Club and Cirque de la Nuit all sail from Bossa at lunchtime, and unlike the San Antonio boats they usually feed you — paella, pizza, fruit. Better fit for our free Friday, and no cross-island taxi if we're staying that side.

Half an hour on the fast ferry to the best beaches in the Balearics. Hire a scooter at the other end. The one to pick if the Friday is genuinely about recovering rather than going again.

Before anyone books

  • 20 August — La Kiki, The Ibiza Oasis and AMA all stop being refundable. That's this Thursday.
  • One room left at The Ibiza Oasis, two at AMA.
  • Coach transfers are not equal: 20 minutes to Playa d'en Bossa, about an hour to San Antonio, 1h45 to Endlss. We land at 11:30 and O Beach shuts at 22:00.
  • Spanish twin rooms are usually two singles pushed together, so most doubles can be split — but get it confirmed, don't assume.
  • Jet2 takes a deposit and the rest later. Booking.com options need no payment now and are free to cancel.
